Aletta Jaeckel

Guided tours in the
North of the Netherlands and Germany

About me

My name is Aletta Jaeckel. After living and working in the tourism industry in Germany for 30 years, I have returned to the region where I was born.

Besides working as a tour guide on river cruises, I enjoy guiding groups through the north of the Netherlands. Discover with me the impressive hunebeds, silent relics from the ice age, and enjoy the heath and moor landscape.

Drenthe is also the region Vincent van Gogh wrote about in a letter to his brother Theo: ‘Hear! I think I have found my country.’ Not only Van Gogh found inspiration in Drenthe; also the well know painter Max Liebermann from Berlin captured the Drenthe landscape in one of his most famous works, Die Rasenbleiche (Bleaching on the Lawn).

Far away from big cities like Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht and Amsterdam, Drenthe once became a shelter for convicted criminals and pauperised families. The traces of this past are still visible and reflected in place names and historical sites.

Together, we will set up a programme for a day trip or a multi-day trip, completely customised to your wishes.

Daytrips

During a day trip, I accompany your group and tell your guests interesting facts, exciting stories and humorous anecdotes.

Bike & Breakfast

The cycling portal Bike&Breakfast came into being in 2007 and offers cycling routes and holidays across Europe.

That also means being on the road. Writing about routes and themes.

Multi-day Packages

As with a day trip, I accompany your group, but am more than happy to help create the programme. I can also give you good tips for accommodation and sightseeing.

Translations & Content

Do you need a tourist translation? I would be happy to translate your texts into Dutch. I also work ‘behind the scenes’ for travel organisations in terms of entering content on the customer’s website. Ask about the possibilities.

Sightseeing for a great group trip

For a diverse day trip in Drenthe and Groningen, there are plenty of attractions. In Drenthe, you can admire the prehistoric dolmens, for example in Borger at the Hunebedcentrum, or explore nature in the Dwingelderveld National Park. History and impressive stories can be found in Camp Westerbork. For art and culture, the Drents Museum in Assen is a must. In Groningen, the city offers a mix of history and modern architecture, with the Martini Tower and the colourful Groninger Museum as highlights. Outside the city, the stately manor houses, such as the Fraeylemaborg in Slochteren, and the wide Lauwersmeer area are perfect destinations for nature and culture lovers.

In other words, we will also find the right programme for your group.
